Ok, time to rant about Body Renew. If you don’t want to read about me bitching and complaining about this place (because the BF doesn’t, and I really want to spread my dislike of body renew on somewhere other then Twitter, or Yelp-the owner has his friends give good ratings to boost the yelp ratings!), then please read about me participating in the Barber To Boise 5k, Live to Bfit 5k, Run For The Hills Half-Marathon (pics here), or even Project Athena 10k. Thanks! Love ya!
I do not recommend this business for anyone to get a membership to. I appreciate the 24 hour access of the locations. But I do not appreciate the business. Or the owner. I met him today since the new location on Vista is open. What a jerk. Could he have said “Hello” or “Hi” or “Welcome to the new location” or provide some nice customer service? No. He just wants my money. He barked at me when I walked into the building to go back outside and scan my ID card. This Vista location is next to a liquor store. And in the ghetto neighborhood I am not a fan of, one mile down the street from the previous location. Which they never had anyone clean it regularly or have basic supplies stocked (paper towels, TP, soap, ect) The temps were not at a good temperature to work out in (always too warm) and there was no fans to circulate the stale stank happening in there. It appears that the money coming in from membership fees were not going to things that I want to be paying for. I want good, high quality, working machines (I bet you are renting them, ghetto renew. Can’t they replace, or fix the rentals?), a fan to cool me down if the building is not going to be cool if the weather is 100 degrees outside (do I seriously need to bring my own fan from home?), a maybe a not broken drinking fountain (I have started bringing a water bottle), and someone to clean the germs, cobwebs, hand prints, and sweat contaminating every surface inside the 4 walls, ceiling and floor (I wash my hands after I touch the equipment. And after I get home.).
This new location IS bigger. With more machines. But all the machines that I use (treadmill and elliptical) are without TVs. Except for the 4 old machines that they decided to bring along to the new joint. No TV’s or fans in the machines means that they are the cheapest possible that ghetto renew can put inside their facilities. I don’t have cable TV at home and if I am slogging for an hour and a half, I would like to watch a movie or SOMETHING on something other then my Ipod Nano.
All these machines are all facing the big wall of windows in the front of the building. Which have no shades on them. So, if you happen to go workout before 10am, you are going to have to wear your sunglasses, since sunrises can be bright. And warm. May need to think about sunscreen also.
Maybe all this complaining is because I am spoiled, since my previous gym membership was at the BSU Rec Center, which has lots of great, high quality machines, lots of space, hot members, lots of potties, and a big locker room with, like, 10 showers.
Not ghetto renew. We get one men’s and women’s toilet with one shower stall. The potty and shower in the same room. If I happen to be taking a 30 minute shower, and some other lady needs to pee, or wash her hands after touching the scuzzy equipment, she is going to have to wait at least a half hour or maybe use the men’s restroom instead. Yeah, there is going to be some angry patrons. Or maybe some kids from the kids play area are going to pee themselves. Or water the bushes outside. That’s going to be great. *rolleyes*

A regular bathmat that is going to harbor germs and bacteria at the shower stall. How often is that going to be cleaned? Yeah. That is exactly what ALL gyms have to prevent slips and falls.
Oh yeah. Did I mention that this new location was scheduled to be open LAST MONTH. And they are not even done setting up this new location yet? I really think that someone really is struggling with financing for their business.
I am not happy with this business that I give money to every month. I totally feel like a sucker for falling into the scam of signing up for a membership. A 2 year membership which costs $16.00 a month. A 3 year is the $9.99 a month before tax. BSU Rec cost me $20 a month. I didn’t get the long hours and I got lots of kids with too much perfume and loud cell phone convos. But all of this this is before I bought a Garmin, a Camelbak, and better quality clothing for weather of all conditions. I really can’t wait for 40 days until my marathon. I really want to stick out my membership until then. I am hoping that some of the bugs would have been worked out at this new location, but it really looks like that nothing has or will change.
Seriously, if you have read this far, sorry about this ranting post. I do not know how the management can make me happy after being unhappy since I have signed up for my membership. I would like this business to be what I want. It is near where I live. It has hours when I need them. It has most of the machines that I need and want. Even if they are the cheapest, lowest quality available. But it seems like someone doesn’t know a thing about running a gym as a business. And that someone isn’t me.
