Saturday’s 26 mile long training run turned in 16. It was cold, like 40 degrees when I headed out and got only colder from there. The wind was blowing fairly hard and I headed out wearing less then what I did Friday for fear of overheating.
Started my slog from my house. My house to Lucky Peak and back is about 26 miles. I went out earlier then my last 2 long runs. I felt confident and prepared. Silly me.

Called the BF to meet me at BSU to bring me more clothes – the ones I wore Friday. I was cold. Like stupid cold. And I should have just turned around and slogged the 2.5 miles home to get more clothes instead of waiting at BSU for the BF. Anyways, he brought me my things and I was protected against the cold, cold wind and I was confident I was going to be successful in my running journey of the day.
I went into this with a plan to fuel less then last week – every 5 miles which worked out until mile 8. My legs were getting pretty tired. The beanie I was wearing was acrylic instead of wool. It was freaking me out that my sweat was not able to evaporate and my hair was soaked, dripping onto my Nike running jacket, making me colder then what I fear I actually was.
There were more deer running around then what was out there last week. All bouncing around in the fields and pretty close to me on the Greenbelt.

There is a deer butt in the center of the pic. He was very close to me and when I tried to take his pic, he kinda acted a little camera shy.
The cold prevented me from really enjoying this run. And the scenery. If last Saturday and this Saturday were combined, it would have been a perfect day. There was no one out on the greenbelt, which I love. But not today.

Behind the dam there is no water. You can actually walk across to the other side. Very cool.
I turned around after the dam. I was too cold. And my right front hip/quad area was starting to hurt. I was walking to help stretch it out but feared that my feet were going to hurt as bad as last week because my feet do not like to walk in my shoes.
Then front hip/quad area actually cramped. I was limping. Tried stretching it but I felt like it made it worse. I called the BF to pick me up. My face was so cold-it was frozen. I couldn’t even move my lips to talk on the phone. That was a sign I needed to pack it in. Tried to run so that he didn’t have to drive as far to come get me, but I was hurting. And really cold. I’ve said I was cold a lot this post.
Anyways after a hot shower, changed into sweatpants and fleece, ate pizza and froyo at Blue Cow (who would have guessed that an froyo shop is THE place to be on a Saturday night?!) physically I felt ok. I was discussing a Seattle game plan with the BF. I’ll post my thoughts on another post.
I know blogging runners love fro-yo. Are your favorite locations open late – like Midnight on Fri/Sat? Blue Cow is 10pm on Saturday and U-Swirl on Overland is midnight, or is it just Boise?
