Post-Marathon Recovery – Day 4

Posted on December 1, 2011 by runinboise

Yesterday was a pretty lazy day. I really felt the urge to get out of the house and go slog on the treadmill this afternoon at Ghetto Renew, but I did not.

I want to recover properly for my body and ability.

I focusing on re-hydrating yesterday. I consumed about 2 Nalgene bottles of water. I also had 2 mugs of green & white tea and a cup of skim milk. I also had a glass of Chardonnay with the BF.

I had an hour massage yesterday. My therapist was ok. I told her to not dig in anywhere and focus on relaxing me and help move the lactic acid out of my muscles. She could have worked my quads a little more but I do have another massaged booked for next week at somewhere else. Plus, I am REALLY picky when it comes to my massages.

My body feels pretty good on day 4 post marathon. The knot in my shoulder has relaxed. (Bio-freeze has never worked so well for me before!) There is very little muscle soreness here and there, but I am not as stiff and in pain like I thought I would have been following the marathon.

I have been taking multi-vitamins to help replace what is missing this week.

I will be going back to work tonight after a whole week off. I have a week worth of work to catch up on! I will be walking a ton tonight and tomorrow I will ease into a short 1 or 2 mile run.

I think I am good on my carbs in my diet. I actually want to eat a steak or some meat or something carnivorous and paleo. But I  had a ton of veggies yesterday. Salad stuff, broccoli with hummus, potatoes and canned corn.
