There are not a whole lot of runs in the wintertime in Boise, Idaho. Which makes me sad. I am going to be outside slogging away, I might as well get a t-shirt and a bagel for doing it with a few hundred other people, right?
There are however a few good races out there. There are also a few sites that have not updated their site from races nearly a year ago, so there may be even more available.
You do already know about the Christmas Run on Saturday and the New Years Day 5K on Jan 1st.
On January 21, 2012 there is an Ultra run that a friend from High Schools husband is running in & she is going to be a volunteer for. It is the Wilson Creek 50k, 20 mile, 10 mile. It actually sounds like fun – if I was a ultra runner and a trail runner. We have not had much snow in the mountains, so it will be frozen dirt trails – until it decides to snow.
February 11, 2012 there will be the Heart to Heart 5k in Albion, Idaho. (3 hour drive from Boise) It is $20 to register before Jan 20th and $25 after.
One of the sites that has actually updated is the YMCA. They have a few races planned for the year and on March 17th, there is a St. Patricks Day Fun Run. It is a 5 mile or 5K. Looks like fun to me. $25 to register with shirt, $18 with no shirt.
April is when runs start becoming more available. (If the sites would updates their sites with 2012 info) We got the Beat Coach Pete 5k on the 14th. I believe he ran his 5k in 25 minutes in 2011, so if you are faster then me (my 5k was 35 minutes), you can beat him.
May we have an interesting mix of runs on every weekend. On the 5th we have a 5k that is a fundraiser for East Jr. Hi. Athletics. $20 registration for the run or walk.
On May 19th, we have the Famous Idaho Potato Marathon with lots of people doing the 5k and hardly anyone doing the Marathon. This is a big deal with a 10k and a half marathon.
Are you signed up for any other races in 2012? I can’t wait to sign up for more then the 2 I have already got down on the calendar!
