This morning at noon was the time to register for the “Toughest Half-Marathon In The Northwest.” Race To Robie Creek.
I got in and got registered!
I will be using this as a “training run” for the Sogonapmit Marathon. Since this is 8.something miles uphill and a the last 3.something down, basically what I will be doing in July. Except July will be 13 miles up (in less then 2.5hours!) and 13 miles down.
What is funny/sad is that I have lived in this area my whole life, and I have never done Robie. I have only went up Shaw Mountain Road ONCE and I was the only car. The road was filled with people walking/running. This is when I was 18, had a car full of friends, and me with the only car- we were just joyriding. But I freaked out how steep and dirtroadish the dirt road was & I let my “man friend” turn my car around and go back to his place near Camelsback Park. I don’t remember what we did after that, but he did scratch my car paint by going off the road near the park. Dude was like 30 and way less mature then me at 18. I wonder where he is now after all these years?
Anyways, looks like I will have to get my butt off the treadmill and into the foothills. I ONLY have 2 months to get used to hills. The distance I can handle, but I NEED to get a few slogs in on the course to prepare my knees for the ups and downs. This week, I will start focusing my training a little more intensely – making sure I am doing my long runs further then 10 miles, cross-training a little more frequently, oh and I think I will be needing another pair of shoes soon.
April 21, here I come!
