I didn’t get around to running this weekend. Sunday was spent cooking all afternoon and eating with the fam in the evening type of day. Saturday, well, I spent all day in my running clothes because I was going to run, but it stayed too hot all day and well into the evening. Long story short, I didn’t run all weekend.
My right Achilles is bothering me more then normal. The back of my right heel and the side of my foot is tender. I blame heavy heel striking that I was doing Friday. I am going to take some running time off, this week and or next.
I don’t know if this is from my Achilles being annoyed, I am imbalanced, or I need to work on some stretching, but my right foot goes back further then my left. So, for the sake of a snapped Achilles or something else equally scary, I am taking a short break from running. And I am wearing compression sleeves to work tonight.
Last night at dinner, my BF’s step-father told me he wants to run Bay To Breakers with me next year. He did it a couple of times already and I kinda gave him the running bug for this race again. Woo-Hoo! He also can get $99 flights to Phoenix, so I may have to consider spending the full price money for RnRAZ. (BF’s brother lives there, so we have to go down there eventually, BF went to ASU for school, race finishes in ASU stadium- just a perfect vaycay spot for us.)
I have been neglecting cross-training for a while. With running on the back burner, I am going to get some cross-training on. I feel weak. The 30 Day Ab Challenge is tough – and I have not even finished the planks for the 1st day yet.
And the jumping. Yeah. Not good for my foot and calf area.
Tara Burner is even having a Plank, Push Up, Squat Challenge. I could easily hold a plank for 5 minutes 2-3 months ago. Now 30 seconds is hard. Like I said, I am weak. Both of these challenges are just at the perfect time for me. I need to build my muscle strength back up.
How do you like to add cross-training in to your week? Are you participating in a July challenge?
