New Training Plan

Posted on September 7, 2016 by runinboise

I decided that I needed a training plan to get out of my running funk. I don’t know if this month is the best month to be starting a plan. I am going on a cruise in a month. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a lot of other things big happening like trying to buy a house, too. So I worry about spreading my focus thinly.

Since completing my first ultramarathon in 2013, the other half kinda put a bug in my ear about getting a buckle. I think that I have the determination to complete a big ultra. I have nerves about it because it such a big commitment. Not just in training but the whole race too. I mean going basically non-stop for 30 hours or so.

I have been searching 100 miler training plans and decided to go and buy Krissy Moehl’s book. Her 100 miler training plan is a year long. I think that is a reasonable time frame to get my leggies into shape.

Plus the late summer and fall is a good time to find races. I am looking for something fairly flat and something on a loop. I know that halfway though, my brain won’t be able to think and I am so afraid of getting lost on some of those mountain trails and being stuck doing “bonus miles” when I will be worried about cutoff times.

I am also vain and want something with a cool buckle.

I am reading up about the Pistol 100. It is on Dec 31st – Jan 1st. So I think that will be a great celebratory day to have a such a big race. Plus it is a little farther out from the yearlong training plan that I extend or take time off from being sick, injured, ect.

From Here

And the buckle is cool.

There is also the Habanero Hundred in Texas. I think with the heat, it will be a toughy. In 2015 only one person finished the 100 miler. In 2016, there was rain so 13 people finished.

Plus there is also the party of Javalina Jundred. Flat, desert-y. Totally like my desert wasteland that I’m living in now. I don’t know if I will feel intimidated by the elites that run this race but it seems like it would be a good and popular race to do.

ย What do you ultra runners think? Any training plans or race suggestions? Anything I need to know about a year long training plan commitment?
