Wow! can you believe that school is back in session and summer is closing in on Autumn!? If you have not made it out to your secret camping spot in the Idaho mountains to pick huckleberries, Albertsons on Broadway in Boise has you covered!
Huckleberries are a very Idahoian and a very local thing. I never went camping with my family a child, but my BFF went often with his family. One of his favorate memories with his mother is picking buckets of huckleberries when they went camping every summer near McCall, and the delicious huckleberry pancakes that she made after. You can’t get much localvore and free range and organic then that!
If your family was like mine and not able to go camping on these warm summer days to pick your own huckleberries, Albertson’s on Broadway has you covered. I can not believe how many items have huckleberries included in the store.
I found huckleberry kombucha, pepper jelly, pancake syrup and mix, bbq sauce, lemonade, shandy, curd and the salmon with huckleberry sauce and asparagas. All looked really tasty and I can’t wait to try them all!
I really hope you get over to the Albertson’s on Broadway soon. Its a pretty impresisve store. The bakery items are made from scratch fresh, the deli is impressive, the meat department had dry aged Double R Ranch Beef, and the Grab and Go section is one of my favorate. I am trying to meal prep and have the protein, carb and veggie at every meal. The Grab and Go section has that already prepped for me and its so easy to get one and reheat it at lunch or dinner later.
The sushi section is really nice. The fish is so fresh tasting and generously portioned. They can even make a Poke Bowl for you, too!
The prices are more then reasonable and the quality is just worth it.
If you or someone you know likes red wine, I totally recommed the Frei Brothers Pinot Noir. Its jammy but without a lot of strong tannins. Its robust but very easy to drink. I have already bought a few bottles of this this month and its a very enjoyable wine.
If you are in the Boise area and have not been to the Albertson’s on Broadway yet, I highly recommend that you do everything in your power to visit. This store keeps impressing me on every visit and I am pretty hard to please. There was a buffet of snacks in the bar upstairs with the flatbread and sushi and deli items. We got a plate and ate it on the way home.
The sushi was the best part of the evening. I can’t think of another sushi resturant in Boise that has the cut and quality of fish.
Do you have a story involving huckleberries with your family? What is your favorite item to throw huckleberries in? Have you made it to the Albertson’s on Broadway yet?
