Happy July, everyone! I get my butt into the festive 4th of July spirit and ran a 5K. It was fun!
The race was very small and was not timed. It was OK. You got a tutu, a beer or lemonade and a good hot dog at the end! It was in support of the Sun Valley Ballet. I had no clue on the route, other then where it started. I didn’t expect hills so that was a plus.

The Route and my slow a$$ time |
Downside, this is at elevation and it KILLS me. It makes me feel like a really crappy (crappier) runner then I am. I was not the slowest, but I WAS SLOW and I did do run/walk intervals of 1/2 – 1/1 as I was in no hurry. But mix in the elevation when you are overweight and out of shape and just getting back into the running aspect of things, and well, I’m thankful it wasn’t timed. 🙂
The other half spotted a yard sale around the block and I made him take my starting line pic and shoveled him out to the sale. I didn’t want him to miss out on anything good. Plus, I had asked him to have a mocha waiting for me at the finish line. 🙂 I only had 4.5 hours of sleep and I was in NEED of Java for some major caffeine to make it until the fireworks and the hour drive home!
PS. The other half found some antiques for cheap. He just has to date it but it is old and it is very unique but useful – its not junk!
The race actually started a couple of minutes early. I love the small town informality of this. I was ready to trot and knew I was going to run/walk this.
The weather was just lovely and cool. There wasn’t much traffic on the roads, although there was going to be a parade right after so people were out and about. It was a nice and well marked run with arrows with a few volunteers cheering for us.
This race was TUTU’s and RUNNING SHOES for a reason. Everyone got a tutu, men and dogs included. It was fun and I should have picked another color instead of blue. I felt a little self conscience for being all blue.
I was slow and out of shape feeling. I was a sweaty mess as punishment for being so out of shape. But I was on 4.5 hours of sleep. I completed the run.
Hey, look. I have a mocha waiting for me. :-p
Besides the other half getting me my mocha with that lovely cake frosting-like whipped cream on top, the run had freshly BBQ’ed hot dogs – which were so good, and Sawtooth beer and lemonade. Yum!

These were the beer flavors available. |
Post-run I should have changed out of my clothes earlier as I got chaffed walking around the antique booths at the park. I was kinda miserable the rest of the day. I did have my body glide and slathered it on throughout the rest of the day. All it all it was a lovely day that had some shopping, some napping after lunch (it was very much needed!) and an OK firework display at the park. I slept so dang well when I got home!

Took a walk around Riverfest after the Parade and antique fair shopping |
How was your 4th of July? Did you do any BBQing, or travel out of town for the fireworks? Did you run a 5K before a pancake breakfast in the park?
